3D Machining

Working from 3D solid models, Edwards Precision are able to generate machining data and send it directly to our high-speed machining centres, producing complex prototype parts without the need for expensive forging or casting tools.

This facility has enabled our customers to submit such parts to OEMs in weeks rather than months and with a fraction of the development cost incurred.

Where modifications are required, the model can be changed, the programs updated and new parts machined in less time than it would previously have taken merely to strip down conventional dies and decide the alterations required.

The prototype components shown to the right were 3D machined from fully surfaced CAD models. This form of production is ideally suited to developing projects where customers need to avoid the time and expense of creating tooling to suit products which are not yet design-fixed.

Prototype Manufacturing

This prototype suspension component is 3D machined, in heat treated aluminium, from a fully surfaced model. The process allowed the customer to trial parts quickly and without the expense of forging tooling. Entire sets of the arm were produced and further sets similarly formed as the designs were refined prior to finalising.
